Artificial additives

Chemicals and chemical compounds added to foods in order to manipulate their taste, colour, texture or shelf life. Also an umbrella phrase that incorporates certain food colours, flavourings and additives. Only seven of the seven thousand additives used in non-organic food may be used in organic food.
