Home > Glossary > A B C| Androstenedione, technically a hormone precursor, is converted in the body to testosterone and estrogens. Some research shows androstenedione to increase serum testosterone within 1.5 hours of taking the supplement, whereas other reports show no increase in serum testosterone levels but an increase in estrogenic compounds. These variations can be attributed to the user's current hormone levels. For that reason, androstenedione is not recommended for young athletes. The International Olympic Committee includes androstenedione on its list of banned substances. |
