Antibiotic

A substance used to destroy or inhibit the growth of micro-organisms. One side effect in antibiotic usage for livestock is that overuse allows bacteria to develop resistance. When humans ingest meat, organs or other food products from these animals (such as the flesh or egg of a chicken), it is argued that effectiveness of antibiotics is potentially reduced, thereby negatively impacting the treatment of serious human diseases.
