Home > Glossary > A B CCalcium Caseinate is a high protein, high calcium nutrient derived from milk. Food technologists in the 1970s, aiming to separate the whey proteins from milk in as concentrated a form as possible, produced a range of concentrates such as Calcium Caseinate and Whey Protein Concentrate. Calcium Caseinate has been used to add to the protein content of baked goods, yogurts, processed cheese, biscuits and spreads. Carrying the same quality rating as Whey Protein Concentrate (PDCAAS 1.0), Calcium Caseinate adds significantly to the protein "stack" in powders, bars and drinks by offering a slower-absorbing source of protein. Caseinates coagulate in the stomach so that the protein peptides and amino acids pass more slowly through the gut. This improves satiety (appetite satisfaction) while prolonging the supply of nitrogen to the muscle tissue, thus preventing muscle wastage. |
