The major essential fatty acids are linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). Like vitamins, the absence of EFAs in the diet cause deficiency diseases such as hair loss, swollen & painful joints, dry & scaly skin, irritability, lethargy, infertility, infections, liver problems and poor tissue structure. |
