Glucose

Glucose, also known as dextrose, is a carbohydrate which provides energy for both metabolism and physical activity. The process of digestion commonly breaks the foods we eat down into glucose and other simple chemicals which the body is then able to use. When glucose is used as the body's primary energy source, it circulates constantly in the blood, contributing instantly to brain function and anabolic processes. Excess glucose, not given the opportunity to burn as energy, is stored as glycogen or body fat, then tapped and recycled as glucose when it is needed.
