Ornithine

Although often termed a non-essential amino acid, because it is made in the body, Ornithine is actually one of the products of the enzyme arginase on L-arginine, creating urea. Therefore it is a central part of the urea cycle, which allows for excess nitrogen disposal from the body. High concentrations of Ornithine are found in the skin and connective tissue, making it useful for the promotion of damaged tissue repair. It has an important role in stimulating release of growth hormone in the body, which impacts fat metabolism. Further, Ornithine is required for a healthy immune system and assists liver rejuvenation. Studies have shown that Ornithine improves endurance in strenuous athletic activity.
