Oxidation
The chemical process where electrons are transferred from a compound. In the human body, this most often involves oxygen taking electrons and joining itself to various structures.
Oxidation is a process that is utilised by the body to liberate energy from your food at a cellular level. This controlled oxidation is what keeps us alive and supplying oxygen to the body for this controlled oxidation is the primary function of breathing.
The same oxidation, when uncontrolled, is a powerful destructive force within the body, causing damage to many cellular components, including DNA. This oxidative damage or stress is said to be a key factor in the ageing and degeneration of the physical body.
Uncontrolled oxidation can be remedied by inclusion of a broad spectrum of anti-oxidants in the diet, mopping up any rogue oxidative free radicals.
