Australian Kayaking champion counts down to Olympic trails
BY JULIE SEAMERChantal Meek, Aussie Bodie's kayaking champion is clocking up the kilometres, in preparation for the Olympic Trails this March.
Chantal reports that with only a few weeks to go, she is paddling 20-30kms per day. As competition nears, this training load will decrease, along with a slightly decreased calorie intake to provide her body with the energy reserves it needs for racing.
"Every morning after training I have a shake with Aussie Bodies WPI or Perfect Protein", she says. "They speed up recovery and promote growth and repair after a hard work out. The high protein content also helps me feel satisfied for the whole morning. During the day or before training sessions later, I snack on Protein FX, Trim or the Abundant Earth Organic Crispy Rice bars. I'm happy with the balance of protein, fat and carbs in each of these. I've also been enjoying the Protein Crisps as a treat in the afternoons, but I don't have to feel guilty!".
Like any professional athlete must, Chantal is very aware of the therapeutic benefits of fish oils and takes Omega 3 oils daily, along with Healtheries Jointex Powder; both proven to help protect, heal and build damaged connective tissue and cartilage.
Reports on Chantal's Olympic Trials performance and post-race diary will follow soon.
