Geelong High Performance Triathlon Program focuses on high performance racing this year

BY JULIE SEAMER

The Geelong High Performance Triathlon Program (GHPTP) produces many outstanding athletes and the tradition is set to continue.

Jarrod Evans, Director and Coach reports that the core of the program for the 07/08 Season has been completed, with several of the more experienced athletes enjoying great success. He adds that the focus is in "making the transition from high performance training into high performance racing".

With most of the season behind them, but a few very important races remaining, the team are as busy as ever and aiming for the best results to finish off:

Bridgitte Burns:

the stand-out athlete in terms of her racing schedule, she's had some disappointments mixed in with very solid races as well. In Hobart she finished 2nd in the under 23 Section in the Elite Race, which doubled as the Australian Sprint Distance Championships. At the Continental Cup Series/Under 23 Oceania Championships in Wellington, New Zealand, Brigitte had a rough day, then finishing off her debut season as a Professional Athlete at the Mooloolaba Open Age Elite Race in QLD.

Renee Lane:

training hard for the 70.3 Race (Female Elite) in China later this month – her first International Race Event.  Recently Renee finished a very credible 2nd place Female Elite in the Gatorade R6 race – a fantastic result, and is now tapering off in preparation for China. She reports that "Race day will be a nice reward for all the hard work that has gone into the past months and I will live by the motto 'focus on the process and the result/time will take care of itself' ".

Jarrad Lindsay King:

school-aged Jarrod has progressed very well dominating and winning races in his age group at will (Male 12-14). Jarrad finished off the season in fine style placing 5th in the Australian Secondary School Championships in Hobart. It was his first interstate competition, before Jarrad finished off another great race by winning at the Brooks Race in Melbourne. He is hungrier than ever to get back to racing next season and without doubt, a talent to watch for the future.

Scott McPherson:

enjoyed his best result all season at the Gatorade Race in Elwood earlier this year, where he took out the ITU Male Junior Category in fine style beating many rivals. Testament to the fact he worked hard over the past few months to get on top of his school work, while also experiencing a 'growth spurt'!

Belinda Harrison:

After nursing bursitis of the hip joint, with treatment and a controlled training regime she is improving well, and on track for a solid result at Ironman China (Female Elite) on the 20th April. Heat and humidity are suited to Belinda – proven when she finished top 5 in Malaysia last year. Keen to show that she belongs on the International Pro Ironman circuit, Belinda says she couldn't be happier with her preparation and is grateful to be facing the starting line injury free.

As proud sponsors of the team, providing high quality sports nutrition to these athletes, Aussie Bodies is excited about the future of all the fantastic sportsmen and women in the GHPTP and will keep you up to date with results of their efforts.
