Melbourne Tigers NBL Champions
At the Sydney Entertainment Centre last Friday, the Melbourne Tigers roared triumphant, after a war of wills against The Sydney Kings. For more than a decade the 'house full' sign hadn't been seen at this venue, but it went up after 6pm with all 10, 244 tickets snapped, to witness the Melbourne Tigers bounce back winning 85-73 after falling in game four.
While the team were feeling head and shoulders over all, none stood taller than Chris Anstey, the leagues best and most dominant player. He raised his arms at centre court as the buzzer sounded, bouncing the ball high into the rafters. He told newspaper reporters, "Game four was the most devastating loss I've been part of and this win might be the sweetest because of the character we showed".
Affectionately referred to as 'man mountain' Chris Anstey was invaluable in the Tigers arsenal. The other big winner of the night was veteran Tiger David Stiff, now with six titles, one better than Larry Sengstock for whom the grand-final MVP award is named.
Coach Al Westover, now with two titles and a second place in three seasons had said he couldn't call a win until the dying seconds. "Our player's character is amazing to bounce back like that. We hadn't beaten them (the Kings) or Brisbane all year – we swept Brisbane and to beat them in a series and twice in Sydney is an amazing effort".
Brian Goorijan, Kings coach agreed. "I thought Melbourne was outstanding tonight. The improvement in them in their championships is coming from their defences. It's totally under-rated".
Aussie Bodies has proudly sponsored the Melbourne Tigers for several seasons. The team are fuelled by Protein Revival drinks, Mega Weight Gainer powder, Time Release and WPI to meet individual dietary requirements of every player's needs.
During this rewarding 07/08 season, Daniel Lynch, Melbourne Tigers High Performance Manager told us "Protein is an important nutritional requirement that has become a necessity for our athletes on a daily basis. Aussie Bodies Whey Protein Concentrate, contains vital amino-acids which are the building blocks of the players' bodies, playing a major role in cell reparation to build and repair muscles and bones. Aussie Bodies products therefore play a significant role in assisting the players with recovery and regeneration".
Aussie Bodies is extremely proud of the Tiger's efforts and look forward to continuing this win-win relationship for upcoming seasons.
