Emily wins thriller Triathlon
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28, 2007Aussie Bodies sponsored athlete Emily Rooke won the final race in the 2006/2007 Triathlon season, awarding her enough points to finish as runner-up for the series' Elite Females. Held at Portarlington on Sunday 25 March, the race turned out to be a thriller, with Emily putting in her best performance for the season.
A jubilant Emily said, 'Over the last six weeks I have been successful in regaining strength and function through my shoulder, after being hit by a car, so I was pleased to be third out of the water .My position was good enough to make the pack for the bike and then ride the 26km along the coast in tough conditions – windy with many rolling hills!
'On return to transition from the bike I had a quick changeover and managed to exit T2 in first position. I took off into the head wind at a solid pace and was able to increase my lead to around 200m over the 8km run leg.
'In conjunction with taking first place, I was also able to beat Jacinta Collier who, until today had been undefeated in the Gatorade Series
'It has been a long season but I feel that I have come a long way since the beginning, especially after taking last season off with foot surgery. I'm currently looking forward to a break to take some time out to relax, and enjoy work and uni before I re-assess for next season – but the future looks very bright!'
Aussie Bodies wishes Emily all the best in her studies and her quest for some 'R and R'!
