Tameka starts overseas campaign with a win
MONDAY, MAY 14, 2007Aussie Bodies sponsored athlete Tameka Day won the Renne Triathlon in France on 6 May.
Tameka said, "Well, there is definitely no getting up early for these events. The race kicked off at 5pm in the murky fresh water at the Acigne Lakes. The race was a sprint so I was looking forward to a good early hit out.
"I came out of the water with the first group of guys and one girl and raced up the 500m transition track. It was a drafting race but the other girl must have got lost in transition as I didn't see her again.
"The ride was a good course but the roads were shocking. Hard going round corners - fast due to the jutter bumps around them. Consquently, the ride was a bit of a time trial for me out there on my own but I really enjoyed getting off the bike and tackling the running course. This consisted of two laps around the lake, which was a really nice run. I felt pretty good running and managing to reel in quite a few of the boys, which is always nice!
"I won the race, with the next girl about 6 minutes behind. It was a fun race to start things off in France."
Tameka's current World ranking is 41
Her Australian ranking is 7
Now settling in to France as her training base for the next 6 months, Tameka is preparing for her first ITU World Cup Race. A good result in these races will see her World ranking move up again and also see a rise in her Australian Ranking.
…a great "Aussie body", going for it! We will keep you updated on her ongoing achievements.
