I wanted to gain muscle but my PCF Target tells me to eat plenty of carbs, 223 grams a day in fact. This seems to contradict everything I've heard about going low carb. How do you explain this?

It is important to be clear about your goals.

If you are a lightly built person and your goal is to gain muscle, without too much concern about being lean (in other words wanting to increase overall weight), then your body requires extra carbohydrate as well as extra protein. Naturally lean or light framed people (ectomorphs or Vata types) have naturally higher metabolisms in general and need extra carbs to not only build muscle, but to fuel all other activities as well. Once a reasonable level of muscle gain has been achieved, then carbohydrates would be cut back a little. Of course the regular intake of protein as per your PCF calculation will be an important part of your muscle building body plan.

If however your goal is to build lean muscle, while reducing body fat, then you will have a different PCF figure (use the PCF Calculator to find out how much protein, carbohydrate and fat you should be eating).
