Can a change of protein supplement "shock" the body into new growth in the same way that a change of exercise routine can?


Regular periodisation of diet is recommended for all those wishing to stimulate optimum growth and performance, in the same way training ought to be periodised. This periodisation generally involves altering the ratios of protein, carbohydrates and fats, and most of the studies have centred around these variations. However, my own experience with clients is that rigid diets without variation lead to a plateau, whereas those who make regular changes, while still being mindful of appropriate levels of protein, carbs and fats, keep improving.
