Is there any difference in taking vitamin as opposed to herbal antioxidants?

Yes! While the major vitamin antioxidants (Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Carotenoids) and the more potent herbal antioxidants (proanthocyanidins) appear to be doing the same job, namely scavenging free radicals, they do work in differing ways and complement each others actions, leading to a wider spectrum, more potent protection.

Proanthocyanidins, as found in pine bark and grapeseed extracts, strengthen capillaries, arteries and veins; improve circulation and skin smoothness; fight inflammation; and improve joint flexibility. They also readily bind to collagen fibres, thus improving the elasticity and integrity of connective tissues. These attributes make herbal antioxidants a prime protector against the effects of early ageing.
