I'm a vegetarian who wants to start boosting my protein intake with supplementation, but I've read that too much protein can tax the kidneys and liver. Is it possible to over-supplement the body when it comes to protein?

There has been quite a lot of uninformed opinion about too much protein causing liver or kidney damage. At the 1993 scientific Conference on Sports Medicine, Dr. Lemon of the Kent University, in releasing the Scientific Community's new recommendations for protein levels, advised that there is and has never been any hard evidence that taking up to 3g per kg body weight of protein a day has any damaging effects upon liver or kidney function. With the new recommendations of between 1.7 and 2.0 g/kg body weight of protein a day, you can feel assured that you will not be causing any harm to yourself.
