Do all flaxseed oils have the same amount of fat? Which brands do you recommend?
Flaxseed oil, like all extracted oils, is a pure oil which means it is 100 percent fat. There are traces of water and organic material in the oil, but it is not great enough to account for. Remember that fats are an essential part of the diet and fats like those found in flaxseed oil are protective of the system. These omega-3 fats have been shown to prevent cardiovascular disease and reduce cholesterol circulating in the blood. Flaxseed oil is a great addition to the diet to replace the oils you should be minimising, such as saturated animal fats.
All flaxseed oils are pure oils, but what is important when selecting a brand is the quality of the extraction and the care that goes into packaging the oils. Make sure that the oil you buy is cold extracted, preferably through a cold pressing technique. The best Australian options are Stony Creek and Melrose flaxseed oils. In New Zealand, Essential Body Nutrition is also a good brand.
