Join the 8-week challenge

TUESDAY, JULY 08, 2003

How much fat could you burn in eight weeks? Now, how much could you burn for $20,000? One Sydney fitness studio wants to make it very easy - and healthy - for you to lean up in time for summer.

From now till 4 October 2003, Vision Personal Fitness Services in Caringbah are guiding participants through an eight-week journey of quality training and nutrition as part of the McGaw Fat Loss Challenge.

The first prize of $20,000 is awarded to the entrant who makes the greatest relative body fat change. Judges will choose the winner based on photographs and measurements taken on the first and last days of the challenge.

Vision director Geoff Jowett said the challenge was an event anyone could win regardless of their body composition on day one.

"The McGaw Fat Loss Challenge is judged on percentage change, not the total amount of body fat a person loses. That means anyone can win!" Mr Jowett said.

"We are concerned with fat loss, not weight loss. Weight loss programs promote a very unhealthy lifestyle that inevitably leads to people putting even more weight on.

"Our goal is to bring out the very best in people, to inspire them and to provide them with the motivation to exercise like never before, follow a healthy, well-balanced eating plan and lead a more energised life."

This is Vision's second year running the fat loss challenge. Last year's winner, Anthony Hawkins, more than halved his body fat percentage, going from 22.8% to 10.2% body fat over the eight weeks. He also lost 19.5cm off his waist and over 12kg in body weight.

Maria Deveson Crabbe, CEO of Aussie Bodies, said the company was proud to get behind this year's competition as Supplements Sponsor because of its emphasis on healthy weight management.

"Finally there's a program out there that challenges the traditional approach to 'weight loss'. The McGaw Fat Loss Challenge will help you improve your shape and make healthy losses without starving yourself and sacrificing vital body tissue," Maria said.

"Our friends at Vision give you the total package. The focus is on boosting metabolism through balanced nutrition and a training program that's full of fun and variety with friendly one-on-one support. Unlike many 'weight loss' programs, this fat loss challenge recognises the necessity of protein in maintaining reduced body fat.

"Best of all, everyone's a winner because every participant gets to wear the results not just for summer but for many seasons to come."

Entrants in the McGaw Fat Loss Challenge pay a $20 entry fee, which includes a starter kit containing a training diary, Aussie Bodies nutritional products and official challenge merchandise. Participants must have at least one personal training session during the eight weeks. No memberships, contracts or joining fees are required.

In addition to the $20,000 first prize there are also lots of age category prizes, including holidays and cash, to be won. Age categories are: under 30 years (female/male), 30 to 50 years (female/male) and over 50 years (female/male).
