Shape up and lean out for summer

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2001

It's spring. This time of year brings happy faces, bike riding and sunny afternoons in the park. You feel radiant… until you try on that summer outfit from last year.

In the mirror, those shorts that fit so snugly last summer are now strangling your buns like shrink-wrapped spandex. You put on 5kg during winter, so it's time to shape up. What's the best way to go about it before summer rolls in?

Food scientist and champion bodybuilder Eric McEntyre says the journey begins with knowing your PCF.

"Good nutrition and fitness should be routine, not just something done during the spring and summer months. But there is a way to go about it successfully.

"The rules of thumb for dieting are fairly simple. First you need to determine your age, weight and fitness goal. Next, you would determine the number of calories you need in relation to energy expended. Estimate the ratio of protein, carbohydrate and fat in grams with respect to the number of calories you will consume daily.

"Does this sound complex? Well the team here at Aussie Bodies has simplified the process for you. If you use the PCF Calculator and PCF MenuMaker you will be able to plan nutritionally for that summer body.

"A brand new online feature is the forum section, offering further information and support. It's easy to register for forum access, and once you have registered you will be in contact with others like yourself, who are into fitness, good nutrition and getting the most out of life."
